What’s A Blog Niche?

A ‘niche’ basically means a topic or subject. This is the area of interest that your blog is going to focus on and it’s what you’ll be writing about for your blog posts.

A niche can be broad like internet marketing. You can also break down a broad niche into defined and focused sub-niches. For example, Internet Marketing has the following sub niches like Email marketing or Content marketing.

When you first set out to start a blog, choosing a niche always sound like an easy task. Believe me, it is not.

Ideally, a beginner should choose a profitable niche with low competition.

Why not start a blog on the most popular and profitable niches?

Beginners are prone to making this mistake quite often. To consider the most popular blog topics and hoping to get your fair share of the pie can be a mistake for a newbie in the blogosphere.

How To Start A Blog On The Most Popular Blog Topics

You are brave! It’s not impossible. The worst thing in life is to be afraid of competition. However, you need to be ready to bear the pain and put in the hard work required to beat a fierce competitor.

Take the blog createandgo.co as a good example.

They were able to reached $100000 in their first year blogging about “blogging” which is a very competitive niche considering the huge number of well-established blogs on that niche such as:

  • shoutmeloud.com
  • blogtyrant.com
  • smartblogger.com

But to see this massive success in such high demand blog topics within such a short spell of time, they did three things:

  • Invest in training courses
  • Invest in the right tools
  • Put in the required work

To invest in a training course that will take you by the hand and show you step by step how to create a blog that generates money will be the best decision you will take.

We have created a powerful course on how to start a blog form scratch and scale up to $1000 – $100,000 a month. Even if you don’t have any experience, the Six Figure Blog Mastery will take you by the hand and guide you through every single step in creating a six figure blog.

Another way to fast track your blogging success is to invest in the right blogging tools.

Setting up your blog, writing content, driving traffic and monetizing that traffic requires patience, dedication and some hard work. So roll up your sleeves if you want to compete in these competitive but highly profitable niches.

What To Consider For Your Blog Niche Ideas

Whether you want to go after a focused and defined niche with less competition or you want to hit the big niches, there are few things you need to consider.

If you want to know how to choose a blog niche, then here are some considerations that you need to bear in mind when picking your niche.

Passion Vs Profit

I don’t like it at all when people advise you to choose a niche that you enjoy reading and writing about.

As a blogger, this advice only applies to you if your goal is to start a personal blog. A blog that’s not for making money. If you just want to blog for fun, well you can choose anything you are passionate about.

Want to start a blog that generates money?

Forget passion and concentrate on profit because passions are not found. They are developed.

Once your blog starts paying your house rent, buying your cars and paying your girlfriend’s tuition fees, I’m pretty sure you will fall in love with your niche and you will be happy to write about it on a regular basis.

Who doesn’t love what brings them money?

A fellow blogger once told me not to choosing a niche just because some ‘guru’ says it’s a profitable.

I asked ‘why’ and he said I’ll become bored and disillusioned and ultimately give up.

Here’s my response:

Blogging is not an easy job by any stretch of imagination. Why spend valuable time writing about what I love when no one reads it? No matter how much you love your job, you always receive the salary – it’s what kept you there because if you are not paid for a single month, you will leave for another job even if you like your job more than your girlfriend.

What is a profitable niche?

Profitable niches are those that offer ROI (return on investment) in themselves. For example: Finance, health and fitness.

Audiences in these niche always spend money because in theory they’ll make that initial expense back.

There is money to be made in the health and fitness niche because it has a big and obvious ‘value proposition’.

A value proposition is the thing that people will want to buy your products or read your blog for and the ‘way’ that they hope their lives will benefit.

In contrast…

Monetizing a blog on raising stick insects on the other hand will be harder. There is simply not the same demand or ‘need’ for products here. The relative lack of competition in this area does not make it qualify to be chosen as a good niche.

Here’s what to consider next…

Popularity vs Competition

The fastest and easiest way to start seeing success with your blog is to choose profitable niches with low competition.

The fastest way to bid farewell to blogging is to do the opposite.

When picking your niche, you need to think about the competition out there and how easy it is going to be to stand out of the crowd. Unless you invest in a good blogging course, there is no way you can start a blog on highly competitive niches and see success easily.

Of course when starting a blog, you want a niche that has a large potential audience.

Of course we all do. But man…

Picking something big like ‘Health and Fitness’ or ‘Online Marketing’ will land you in a competition that you may not have what it takes to cope.

Choosing a niche with large potential audience is a great idea on the face of it until you think about how many top bloggers are writing in those niches and how well they have established their blogs.

On the other hand, if you choose to blog about rearing stick insects, you’ll likely find that there’s a much smaller audience – but also far less competition.

Wrapping up

My final personal advice is…

Find a topic that is popular but that isn’t so popular that it’s extremely competitive. These are profitable niches with low competition.
